The Beta Test Group

I'm trying to gauge interest in a new group. After reading, head over to The Beta Test Group to join.

What is this group all about?

This group is set up by AdultFriendFinder and run by a mix of Community, Site Support, AdultFriendFinder Engineers and QA. This is a new initiative to improve the technical side of the site. The members of this group will be given access to our new features weeks before they go live to the public. Every month, members of this group will be handed a special link which will allow them to access and use a pre-released version of the site. They will be able to file bugs directly to our engineers, and will receive points for discovering new issues.

Who should join this group?

This group is for the top AdultFriendFinder users. Top AdultFriendFinder users are members who know the site better than we do, are on the site everyday and care deeply about making this site as technically solid as possible. We will probably limit the membership in this group to 200, with a good mix of standard, premium, male, female, groups, TS/TV/TG and couples.

Why are we doing this?

Over here at AdultFriendFinder, we all agree that our monthly releases go live with issues that should have been caught. Partly we miss these issues because we don't ask for the feedback of our members. We firmly believe that by working together we can make this site much better.

What should members expect?

It's still developing, we are trying to find out how many people might be interested in this to start. Please join if you think this is something you want to be a part of. Few things we know so far:

- We are shooting to launch this in early June, but only if there is interest so sign up today.

- We'll give members of this group access to our staging site about a week before a release goes live to the public.
- We'd expect members to log in and play around in are pre-release version of the site for 1 week out of every month.
- Not only will you have access to new features, but you can give feedback and log bugs directly to the engineers working on the site.
- You'll earn points for bugs and feedback that you can use towards memberships.

Interested? Head over to The Beta Test Group to join.

Broadcasters: The Biggest Improvement Ev-ahh

By far the biggest complaint I get around here is, "Why don't you fix what's broken before adding a new feature." That is usually quickly followed with some sort of insult about my the size of my brain, my manhood, or both. Only one of those insults is justified btw.

So, it's with great happiness that I announce this fix. We've switched the software we use to manage how you view broadcasts.

Basically it boils down to this:

- Before the fix 200 viewers could watch your broadcast before problems started happening.

- After the fix 2,500 viewers can view your broadcast before we start putting viewers onto other servers.

As a viewer you should notice huge improvements. As a broadcaster, you should notice less, "Where did you go?" comments.

Here's a handy guide to what's changed for those of you who want a more technical answer.

PS - My brain is small, not my manhood. I could fight a bear naked and win. See, small brain.

Points for Membership, and other stuff

Few things about points that bug people:

- You stop collecting them. There's a max you hit by blogging, uploading pics, posting in the advice lines. The only way to keep getting points is to get friends to sign up, or be a kick-ass bling maker.

- Using your points towards a membership required you to confirm your ID. Confirming your ID requires you send us a copy of your license or photo ID, and many people just aren't comfortable doing that.

Changes we are going to make:

- We are going to change this in the coming months. First off, we are going to eliminate the need to confirm ID in order to use your points towards a membership. This should make points much more valuable.

- We are going to find ways for you to keep collecting points. We do not want people spamming the advice lines for points, so there will still be limits (monthly limits). Instead, we will probably give you points for other activities.

Couple questions for you standards:

1) As a standard, what would you want to use your points toward? We already have membership and viewing profiles already in development. What else, emailing members, viewing videos, adding photos in posts?

2) What ways do you think you would like to earn points? What if you earned a point when you replied to an email, or a point when you added a friend?

Let me know what you think.

TS/TV/TG and Crossdressers

Recently we added Crossdresser to the classification of TS/TV/TG. We understand that this is offensive to the community and we are taking it down.

We apologize for this, and are currently taking turns shaming the engineer responsible for the change.

We'll get it corrected shortly. It's bug# ACCT-1828 for those of you who are following along at home.

Well, take a moment and tell us what you wish would happen.

Is Anyone Successful Using This Site?

Yes.

A few weeks ago we put up a survey. This is the survey that pops up when you turn off auto-renew. In that survey we ask the question,

"Have you been successful using the site?"

Well, 18,000 people have replied so far. Here's how many have met someone in person:

17% of men
43% of women
28% of couples (man and woman)
33% of couples (2 men)
22% of TS/TV/TG

I haven't had any responses from 2 women couples yet, but I'm sure that would be near 100%.

Here are the most successful countries to use AdultFriendFinder:

1) 31% Japan
2) 29% Thailand
3,4,5) 3 way tie! 28% UK, 28% Netherlands, 28.1% Germany
6) 20% US
7) 19% Canada
8 ) 16% Norway

I know we get kind of bogged down here with issues sometimes. Kind of fun to look at the big picture. Get at it UK, Germany and Netherlands!

What's New with the New IMC

We have a brand new IMC for you to try out. There are some small tweaks and group chat is now an option.

What are the new tweaks?

- Broadcast and Page buttons are easier to find (at the top of the page)
- The friends tab has been moved into a drop down so you can filter your pages by friends more easily
- When you scroll over a members icon their information pops up, instead of displaying at the bottom of the page.
- The interface for filtering which members you want to see is much more easy to use. It's all in one location now.

Group Chat:

When you start your broadcast, you'll have the option to start a group chat. The group chat allows you to pull all of your viewers into a shared chat. So instead of answering pages one by one, you can address everyone at once. As a viewer you can filter who is online by group chat

You'll remember we changed our IMC last summer so that it turned into a Group Chat tool. Many members disliked the change, so we switched back. Still, it was a good way to chat with many at once. I want to be clear that this time it's an option when you launch your broadcast. You don't have to make your broadcast a group chat. You still have the option of launching a Private or Public chat and taking pages. You can even switch between a Private, Public and Group while you are broadcasting. Try it out.

I'll be using this for my weekly broadcasts instead of chatting inside a group. It will open up new worlds of communication for many broadcasters, and we're excited to get your feedback.

Have You Noticed Less Fakes?

We've been super aggressive the last week on fakes/spammers.

On Friday we targeted a pretty large spammer. This was one that would use the handles like "jerseyhoney34980" or some series of numbers at the end of their handle. We identified and nixed another 200,000+ plus fakes.

Honestly most of these accounts are there just to screw with us, and try to ruin AdultFriendFinder. They aren't even there to scam you on anything.

So what do you see? Since last Friday 3/26, have you noticed less fakes?
Yes, I've noticed less fakes
No, I have not noticed less fakes

Yes, Kudos are Gone for Good

This will come as no surprise to those of you who attend the weekly broadcast Live From AFF, but Kudos are gone.

Here's the explanation I wrote for customer service:

Based on member feedback, the Kudos rating system has been removed from the site. This means you won't see Kudos on any profile or be able to give Kudos to members anymore. While it was nice to reward other members for good posts or creative Bling, there were a few reasons members wanted Kudos removed.

- Many people didn't know what Kudos were and how you got or gave them.
- It was difficult to understand how your Kudos rating was calculated.
- Some high earners aggravated other members to give them more Kudos. Some would create fake profiles and give themselves Kudos.

You can still rate individual posts, photos, videos or leave members testimonials.

What's up with broadcasting recently?

Some of you may have noticed that it has been difficult to broadcast for the last few weeks.

Why is this happening?

One of our biggest complaints from broadcasters was that they would see themselves broadcasting, but viewers just got a 'connecting' screen. This happened because the broadcast was failing, but only the viewers knew there was a problem.

We added some checks in early February to make sure a broadcaster was still really broadcasting. Now when a broadcast fails, both the broadcater and viewer will switch back to a "connecting" screen.

Who is this affecting?

Mainly people with slower connections to the internet than are needed to broadcast. Before people with slower connections thought they were broadcasting when they really weren't. Now they know when a problem in connection has occurred. This has resulted in a spike of complaints from broadcasters.

What's next?

1) Short term (within the next few weeks), we will increase the framerate for people with faster connections and downgrade the framerate and quality for lower connections. This should keep everyone online, just at different frame rates based on their connection speed.

2) Long term (within the next few months), We are moving to some new server software soon that we expect will help with connection issues.

Blank Screen? Fix It!

If you can stop looking at creamingforyou_x chest for just one moment, you'll notice there is a new link in the bottom left hand corner of her broadcast window. It says, "Blank Screen? Fix It!"

Why do you get a black/blank screen when connecting to a broadcast?

Most everyone is familiar with the black screen of death that you sometimes get when trying to connect to a broadcast. You usually keep clicking and reloading the feed from the broadcast home page until you get lucky and get a live one.

You get this screen when too many people are trying to connect to a feed at once. You are put onto a server where the maximum amount of viewers has already been reached. It's a problem with the Adobe software that runs our broadcasts. Until we are done testing and switching to new software, we added this link to help you get to a server with enough room to view the broadcast.

What does it do?

When you hit this link it puts you on another server where the video is being broadcast. It has a nice little side effect of helping anyone trying to connect after you. The more people who click this link when they get a black screen, the less black screens everyone with get.

When should I click the link?

Click it only when you get a black screen. If the video is choppy, sound is off, or video is stuck this will not help.

This is a nice little workaround that our broadcast engineer built specifically for us. Let's give him useful feedback on how it is working.

Spammers Nads Hacked Off

Now for some good news concerning the recent spike of spammers on our site. We identified the source of the is and just now eliminated 100,000+ spammer accounts associated with this source.

Our issues started in late December and over the last few weeks have gotten really bad. They were using pre-recorded broadcasts, flooding chat room like the lobby, sending flirts and behaving badly.

You can thank Mr. K and our Risk Management team for keeping on the issue. He'll be live in our chat next Wednesday at 2:30 PM Pacific. Hit up Live From AFF and join the conversation.

You should see a dramatic difference in spam and fakes today.
